Corquiéu starts its musical journey in 1998. At that time ,as the group didn't have a place to practice, rehersed in the beach of Ribadesella ...quite wet.

In summer, in 1999 they become well known in the “Folixa de la sidra de Ribadesella ”which offers them the first opportunity to play in front of a numerous public.

They had then only three numbers of their own: ”La muñeira de Llordon”, ”Danza de Tebrandi”, ”and
“Tarari que te ví”. Hard time!!!.

In the festivities of Saints of Coballu, district of Ribadesella, in 1999, Corquiéu plays again in front of the public. They had the idea to make a recording, as besides being pleased with the aplause of their public. They also had more songs of their own by then and various experiences playing alive that haven't stopped generating from that moment in the folk festivals arranged in Asturias and outside of its borders.

In the year 2000 Corquiéu “locked itself” in an improvised studio... a GARAGE ! to prepare their first recording.
After to know the work of composing during the last month, they were racking their brains how to make the recording... of course cider helped a lot.

The band then recorded in a digital form inedited compositions like ,”Andarina, ”Reeel the Main”, ”Lo suelto de Aller”, ”La gaita”...
Two of their songs has integarated this year in a collection of asturian folk music which was edited by the regional record company “L'aguañaz” and its title was “Xeneracion Folk”.
The latest news about the group then was Gema Garcia (voice) joining the group. Her lirics are based on the writings of the local writer Xandru Martin, who wrote these lyrics exclusively for the group.
From that time on the colaboration between Corquiéu and Xandru Martin has become more than frecuent connection with the lyrics.
In december, in 1991, Corquiéu finally edited its first album ”La Barquera” edited by “Discos L'aguañaz” containing eleven compositions and an experimental final song in wich they mix contemporary musical tendencies with their particular folk style.

The tour of presenting their cd only be can qualified by one word “succes” which is demonstrated
by the big quantity of performances from 2002 all over Spain and abroad , Lorient Festival 2002, Beltaine festival Bratislava 2003, Slovakia, Praga 2003 Spanish Embassy Chek Republic, Budapest Hungary Fono Club 2003, Tonder Fest Denmark 2003.
